David Drury
Organ, Vocals
David graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance and was also the recipient of the Vasanta Scholarship for overseas study. He was the first Australian to win the Tournemire Prize for improvisation at the St Alban’s International Organ Competition and has given recitals in Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s and Westminster Cathedrals in London, King’s College Cambridge and Notre Dame and La Madelaine in Paris, as well as toured Canada and the United States as a recitalist, tutor, accompanist and choral director—not to mention performing with many Australian orchestras, appearing regularly with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
David Drury is not only a brilliant improviser but a fine composer. He was formerly Organist of Christ Church St Laurence, Railway Square and was Director of Music at St James’ Church, King Street, and is Director of Music at St Paul’s College within the University of Sydney.
David also has a passion for progressive rock, jazz fusion, trance/house dance music, new age and watches excessive amounts of ‘South Park’ and computer animation. He loves to cook (particularly Indian food) and has a keen interest in fine vintage wine.
